NEUROINTENSIVE CARE IN A BRIEF
Ondrej Volný and others
"Neurointensive Care in a Nutshell" is a comprehensive and practical guide that focuses on the most common acute neurological diagnoses encountered by emergency room physicians, neurologists, neurosurgeons and anesthesiologists, resuscitation and intensive care physicians. The publication was designed with an emphasis on clarity and practical usability, offering readers quick and effective orientation in the differential diagnostic and therapeutic process for selected acute neurological conditions.
The uniqueness of this publication lies in its systematic structure, which guides the reader from epidemiology through diagnostics to specific and supportive treatment. It deals in detail with key topics such as traumatic brain injuries and disorders of consciousness, status epilepticus, stroke and intracerebral hemorrhage, myasthenia gravis with a focus on myasthenic crisis and acute polyneuropathy. The text is supplemented with rich visual documentation and illustrative diagrams, which significantly contribute to a better understanding of the issue and to a more efficient diagnostic and therapeutic process.
The publication also brings topics that have not been discussed much in the Czech neurological literature, such as therapeutic apheresis in neurointensive care, psychopharmacotherapy of restless patients in the ICU, and the specifics of modern neurorehabilitation in neurological ICUs. All procedures and recommendations are based on the latest findings and current recommended procedures (guidelines), which ensures a high professional level and practical usability of the publication.
The book stands out for its clarity, clarity and optimal format, which allows for quick orientation in the text. Thanks to its multidisciplinary approach and emphasis on practical aspects of care, it represents an indispensable aid for all doctors involved in the care of patients with acute neurological conditions.

MICROBIOME AND HEALTH
Helena Tlaskalová-Hogenová, Danka Eklová and team
A very topical multidisciplinary topic touches, without exaggeration, all medical fields. The monograph discusses the microbiome with leading experts – doctors of various specialties, as well as food scientists and nutritionists – and brings recent findings from the last two decades. Humans are made up not only of human cells, but also of symbiotic microorganisms that develop with us and colonize all epithelial surfaces of the body – skin and mucous membranes. It has been found that microorganisms play a significant role in all physiological (and defense) mechanisms of our body. A disorder in the composition and function of the microbiota (dysbiosis) leads to a disruption of the balance between microbes and the host, which can result in the development of various inflammatory, allergic, autoimmune and tumor diseases. New possibilities are now opening up for medicine: to influence the composition and function of the microbiota and its interaction with the host, thereby enabling new approaches to the prevention and therapy of these diseases. Not only is lifestyle change important, but also dietary habits and direct influence on probiotics, possibly through the transfer of fecal microbiota.

Pharmacotherapy of emergency conditions
Jiri Knor, Jiri Malek
Maxdorf Publishing House presents the 4th edition of the book Pharmacotherapy of Emergency Conditions to the professional public. 3 years have passed since the last, 5rd edition of this book. The new edition offers an updated clinical perspective on the most frequently used and indispensable drugs in pre-hospital emergency care. One of the main parts of the book is an alphabetical list of basic drugs used in emergency situations, their characteristics, indications, contraindications, dosage, method of administration and significant interactions. Another main part is devoted to clinical situations that require a quick solution. The basic symptoms, differential diagnosis and recommended procedure are listed, selected conditions are supplemented with case reports from the clinical practice of an emergency service doctor. In addition, the book also lists individual routes of drug administration, including non-traditional methods, and at the end there is an alphabetical list of drug brand names. At the same time, the book deals with efforts to introduce new procedures, such as the possibility of administering whole blood in pre-hospital care, continuous cardiac massage and extracorporeal oxygenation, or the priorities for treating traumatic brain injury in children. The authors hope that the book will help all healthcare professionals in their work and, secondarily, ensure that patients overcome critical events.

ECG in intensive care
Michal Pazdernik, Jiri Plasek, Josef Kautzner
Perfect knowledge of ECG is an essential part of a doctor's erudition across the fields of internal medicine. In intensive medicine, however, emphasis is also placed on the ability to navigate ECG curves quickly and accurately, because the picture is constantly changing and changes need to be responded to adequately without delay. This excellent manual - originating from a workplace that is a leader in this field - is designed in an innovative way, with an absolute emphasis on clarity. It is based on more than 200 carefully selected curves, which are supplemented by a concise and perfectly instructive text that does not go into theoretical details, but adheres to simple logic. The description of individual conditions is also supplemented with tips on how to respond therapeutically, if necessary. In addition to cardiologists and intensivists, the book is intended primarily for doctors in internal medicine.
