SEPTIC CONDITIONS IN INTENSIVE CARE
Dana Streitová, Renáta Zoubková and team

The role of nurses working in intensive care is very important and has been increasingly emphasized in recent recommendations. Nursing plays a crucial role in preventing healthcare-associated infections. Preventive steps are published as recommendations grouped into so-called bundles of preventive or recommended practices (Bundles of care).

Nurses are also able to assess the patient's condition and thus contribute to the early diagnosis of sepsis, thereby preventing the progression of the condition to septic shock, the development of multiorgan dysfunction in septic patients. The aim of the publication is to try to bring together available information on the care of a patient in a septic state, to help navigate the issue and thus contribute to quality care for patients with impending or already ongoing septic conditions.

However, the reader will find much more than a text for nurses working in intensive care; students and doctors/intensivists will also find important information here, who can broaden their perspective on a comprehensive approach to the patient.

RESUSCITATION, 3rd supplemented and expanded edition
Authors: Klementová O., Klementa B., Marcián P., Michálek P., Vymazal T.

The monograph Resuscitation, in its third edition, brings an updated and comprehensive view of the issue of resuscitation, summarizes the recommended cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures according to the ERC Guidelines 2025, while taking into account the regional conditions of the Czech Republic in certain details.

The book is divided into 10 chapters with individual subchapters. The introduction briefly discusses the history and epidemiology of cardiac arrest, then continues with the resuscitation of adults, children and newborns after birth, resuscitation procedures in specific circumstances and post-resuscitation care. The final chapters focus on resuscitation training, simulation medicine, ethics, legal aspects and no less important is the subchapter dedicated to organ donors with a non-beating heart - part of the Transplant Act of the Czech Republic. The conclusion briefly summarizes the most significant current changes in resuscitation procedures.

For easy orientation, the individual chapters are distinguished by color, contain illustrative images, diagrams, graphs, algorithms and a total of videos located under QR codes (BLS, BLS with AED, ALS for shockable and non-shockable rhythm types and the procedure for difficult airway management). The summary of important information at the end of each chapter is uniformly colored green. Literary sources are located after the chapter conclusions and the abbreviations used are located at the end of the book.

The monograph is comprehensive and suitable not only for healthcare professionals, but also for students of medical and healthcare study programs.
