Colors of Sepsis 2023
Colors of Sepsis - an excellent event, with an excellent level.
There is no doubt that even the 25th anniversary year was unique. From my point of view, there was no mistake, everything fit as it should. It worked like a well-oiled machine. My eye did not notice any deviations, including at the professional, organizational and social level. To organize an event for 2000 people deserves a big compliment. The division of lectures into several types or complete parts with one topic, but with several experts from other medical fields, found a permanent place in the program and it is increasingly popular among speakers and listeners. As evidenced by the crowded halls. I also like panel discussions that solve current problems. In my opinion, they would need a longer time slot, even though I think it will never be enough. I always look forward to discussions, not only in the lecture room, but also outside it. For me, they are like a life-giving fluid for the next work. After a hard day, it is always good to sit with old friends over a glass of wine or beer at social evenings. Dear Roman, I wish you and your team good health, work vigor and lots of new ideas so that you can continue to organize this event, which is comparable in every way to European congresses. I am glad that I can actively participate in Colors of Sepsis every year. Already now I'm curious to see what new things will be added to the portfolio next year. Once again, Roman, I wish you a lot of work well-being, ideas and more than 25 participants in the next 2000 years.

Colors of Sepsis 2023
So it happened again! Snow and winter came again, combined with gray and dust in the cities, and again all the taxi drivers in Ostrava wondered why so many people - doctors, had gathered there at THIS time for some kind of event. For several years now, when leaving Svinov for Clarion, the gentlemen in the taxi have been asking me why I'm moving from Pilsen to Ostrava, and especially: "Why now?" And I always tell them the same thing: "Because it's worth it to me!" It's worth it to cross for me at a time when I would rather be walking the Šumava cross-country trail with my children, to the other side of the country. Because I know that I will see a lot of faces there that I haven't seen in a year, and that I appreciate it more and more after covid. That there, despite the fact that I still read and follow news on international forums, I always learn something new. And then I always add that I certainly did not come here from the greatest distance, that a number of foreign guests are expected, who will come here for example for a lecture from France, Belgium or, as this year, thanks to the fact that Roman Kula made it possible to hold a morning dedicated to SepsEast, from most countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Of course, I say all this to myself, but when I now looked at the annual statistics and found out that this year there were 2085 other participants with me in Ostrava, of which 349 were foreign, I just couldn't believe my eyes in admiration for a moment and shook my head... like those taxi drivers.
And what was interesting about this year's "Sepsis"? I probably don't know everything, I can always orient myself mainly according to my own program, even if I try to catch up on something from the available records. The blocks of young anesthetists and intensivists were nicely organized - hearing their instructional lectures on "how to interpret capnography, ventilator or EEG waveforms" years ago, when I was starting out myself, would have certainly made it a little easier. As always, the blocks of foreign speakers were also excellent - this year, thanks to the participation with the SepsEast initiative, there were a little more blocks in English and they attracted a fairly good audience. In addition, it was nice to see how the discussion started after their lectures. If you manage to look back at some of the lectures from the recording, I would recommend, for example, Prof. Malbrain and his Fluid Stewardship or Prof. Bellani's analysis of Where ARDS Goes - both of them had a presentation in the SepsEast block on Tuesday morning. The representatives of acute cardiology or "seasoned guys" in the ČSIM block also gave excellently prepared instructional lectures. I also like to attend discussions with experts, but unfortunately I didn't make it this year. I don't think it's worth mentioning about social life. It's certainly not the reason why, when I leave Ostrava on Friday, I always buy a seat in the "quiet section" and hope that no one will wake me up when I get home...
Roman, it was great, maybe again in a year...

Colors of Sepsis 2023
Colors of Sepsis has become one of the largest conferences in Central-Eastern Europe and I am honored to be part of it for about 10 years. The scientific content is of very high quality and the number of invited international speakers has also increased over the years, possibly reaching its peak this year. This is partly due to the close collaboration with the Central-Eastern European Sepsis Forum, the SepsEast initiative. I really hope we can get countries in the region closer to each other and tackle problems we share in this part of Europe more efficiently. Colors of Sepsis could play a pivotal role in this. On another note, the inclusion of junior doctors with a dedicated day before the main program gives another important mission to the one initiated by Roman Kula decades ago. Letting the next generation get to know each other on a regular basis and exchange their views on their practice and knowledge and also learn the experience from current opinion leaders gives an important chance to all of us to improve patient care but also to improve our working principals and our feeling of well being in our workplace in the future. And last but not the least, I would like to give my credits to the organizers, Petr Solomon's team, for the professional arrangements, faultless running of the program - both scientific and social -, and the hospitality. I wish all of you good health, courage and inspiration to take this initiative forward for long-long years to come.
