Colors of Sepsis 2017

Many thanks for this excellent conference. The program, the atmosphere and the organization were superb. Bringing more than a 1000 participants together, inviting highly acclaimed international experts in this part of the world is not just a great professional achievement, but it has a great moral value as well. It helps to lift the spirits of critical care in Central and Eastern Europe. I wish you all the best for the future and many more Colors of Sepsis meetings!

COLORS of SEPSIS

The 19th edition of Colors of Sepsis, which took place from 7 to 10 February 2 in Ostrava, was traditionally organized by MUDr. Roman Kula, CSc. at a high professional level. The whole congress is fully described by the name "Colours" - the colorful variety of the congress did not only apply to the form of presentations - clear lectures, meetings with experts, pro-con discussions, panel discussions, symposia, workshops, posters, but also the content and scope of topics related to intensive care , the quality of lecturers, experts of various specialties, and last but not least, the large number of participants and exhibitors. The presence of foreign experts, especially from Slovakia, the organizational arrangements and the pleasant environment of the congress significantly influenced the spontaneity of the congress and the larger multidisciplinary discussion. I perceived the whole congress very positively and I will look forward to the next one in 2017, because, like every year, Prof. Jean-Louis Vincent is preparing a very high-quality international intensive care symposium in Brussels, so MUDr. Roman Kula, CSc. every year he and his team present us with a high-quality multidisciplinary intensive care symposium in Ostrava, and for that we owe him a lot of thanks.

Dear colleagues

Friends, we have completed the 19th edition of Colors of Sepsis. If I had to describe him briefly, I can think of expressions like: "amazing, fantastic, brilliant, friendly, perfect". From the point of view of human development, 19 years is the period when a newborn becomes an adult. However, this event has long since matured and we could conclude that there is nothing new under the sun. However, the opposite is true. Every year, this event surprises us with the increase in participants, speakers, foreign guests, workshops, exhibitors and of course the cultural and social side, which is already an integral part of this event. Even for me, it is a big surprise every year, and I note that the organizers always exceed these expectations. In the 19th year, unwritten records were broken again. I will mention a few really startling facts: 1629 participants, 330 speakers, a number of important foreign guests, 55 exhibiting companies - what can you say, simply amazing. It has long been no longer a seminar focused on sepsis and MODS. The congress has become a multidisciplinary event, where problems that we encounter in everyday practice are presented and discussed from different perspectives. Unlike "world" or "European" congresses, this event is also amazing in its practicality. Every year, the participants bring a number of practical "take home messages" from Ostrava, which they get not only from the lectures, but also from a number of really high-quality workshops. Another huge difference is the atmosphere. Such a friendly, fantastic atmosphere, you would be looking for nothing at European and world events. It is completely unnecessary to talk about strengthening Czech-Slovak relations and friendships. They were strengthened a long time ago, and they only get deeper with every Ostrava. For a long time, "Ostrava" has also included a pediatric section, which in no way lags behind adults.
When you hear Colors of Sepsis, most doctors and nurses think of Roman Kula - a friend, a great expert, but also the "guru and soul" of this event. He is perfectly complemented by another fantastic person, inextricably linked to this event - Tomáš Zaoral. What these two together with their colleagues and the organizational team can do is simply fantastic. With a bit of imagination, I would compare Roman Kula and Tomáš Zaoral to Elon Musk. He also knows how to surprise with something new and unexpected.
Friends are approaching their 20th anniversary. What we expect will be surpassed anyway. I expect that the jubilee 20th year under their leadership will be a "Congress Hyperloop" that none of us will miss. I am looking forward to "Ostrava", to the professional program, as well as to you, my friends, whom I will meet again there.
