Colors of Sepsis

I was very happy to take part in the 17th Colors of Sepsis meeting in Ostrava. I really appreciated the warm welcome and friendly atmosphere during my time in the Czech Republic. The meeting was well organized and well-attended with more than 1000 participants and 200 speakers. The participants were attentive and clearly interested in learning about the topics covered. One of the things I love about traveling to meetings such as this, in addition to the varied scientific programs, is the opportunity to meet colleagues from other hospitals and backgrounds both during the sessions and on a less formal basis at the social event – we can learn so much from others' clinical experiences! It was certainly a privilege to be able to join you for this important annual meeting and I wish you well as you start planning your 18th meeting!

Looking back at Colors of Sepsis, 2015.

When I was going through last year's program before applying for active participation in this year's Colors of Sepsis, it occurred to me that we have created a Czech-Slovak version of the congresses in Brussels. After all, the entire event respects current broad trends and the necessary expertise that intensive medicine must include in a comprehensive approach to patients today. Brussels is remembered not only by the plurality of topics, but also by their contemporary presentation in up to six halls. It is important to draw up the program right at the beginning of the convention and check which hall I will be moving from to the next, so that I can cover at least part of the topics that interest me. It is even better to do it beforehand with a program available on the Internet. In that sense, the analogy with Brussels is immediate. In agreement with the necessity of a wide plurality of expertise that modern intensive and resuscitation care requires, the fact that this year's event was realized under the auspices of not only the University of Ostrava and the Faculty of Medicine, but also thirteen professional societies of the ČLS JEP and two Slovak professional societies and professional societies of nurses Bohemia and Slovakia. The list also includes the IPVZ, the Czech Resuscitation Council and the Czech-Slovak Sepsis Forum. The thanks of the participants certainly belong to the very good organizational coordination provided by the ARIM clinics and pediatric medicine of the Ostrava FN and to the company SANOPHARM CZ s.r.o. With almost 1000 participants, the smooth handling of the event (at least no problem was apparent to me as a participant) is highly commendable. While there were 2014 lecturers from the Czech Republic and 100 from the Slovak Republic in 14, these numbers increased to 2015 and 148 in 21. There were 2014 and 27 lecturers in the sister section in the same context in 3 and 2014 and 19 in 4. The number of foreign lecturers has increased significantly, from 4 last year to 15 this year. 20 papers were presented in the poster section. And again the relationship to Brussels - at the opening of the Hot Topics block in intensive medicine, the spirited message of Prof. J.L. Vincent evaluating and comparing the management and operation of intensive care units in a number of developed countries around the world. From the point of view of the range of topics and the number of lectures covering a range of expertise necessary for quality care of patients not only septic, but also polytraumatic, surgical and for other reasons requiring intensive care, it is not to be regretted that on the title page of the final program the basic title is Colors of Sepsis, Ostrava 2015 and only "before as PG course on Sepsis and MODS" is written in smaller font in the subtitle. The event uses different forms of presentations, in addition to most of the messages in the form of classic lectures, a number of other presentations are also implemented as meetings with experts, each of which is devoted to 45 minutes, and this ensures space for discussion. Topics evaluated from different, sometimes even opposing points of view, were presented in 4 cases by pairs of lectures FOR and AGAINST. The company symposium was also in the forefront of attention. There were a total of 8 of them, and those of the participants who hesitated at the more attractive ones often had to settle for a standing place. At the company exhibition, every interested party could get acquainted with the wide profile of the company's offer of diagnostic and therapeutic devices and preparations. Snacks were always appropriately provided during the breaks. I can't comment on the daily social evening events, I lived in a hotel far from the place of the actual event, i.e. Clarion Hotel and after a full day of attention to the professional program, I no longer used these offers. In the end, we can only thank the organizers and sponsors and wish the broad Czech and Slovak interested professional audience that Colours of Sepsis will continue to develop and enrich our knowledge, and thus improve patient care.

Colors of Sepsis - Ostrava 2015

Every year we look forward to the end of January, when there is a traditional congress in Ostrava, this time under the name Colors of Sepsis. There is a lot of interest in this event, and only here will we be able to free up 3 workers, as intensivists from fields other than anesthesiologists also participate in the congress. With its professional level, excellent cultural program and hotel environment, the Congress ranks among the best in Central Europe and in many ways comes close to Brussels, where we traditionally meet in March. This year was no exception, and we were particularly pleased with the workshop on the use of ultrasound in intensive care medicine. I think that this is a trend that anesthesiologists and intensivists will follow, and we welcome more such workshops and internships, possibly even weekly ones. The introductory lecture and the panel on errors and mistakes in anesthesia and intensive care medicine were carefully chosen. No one is infallible and we must know how to admit mistakes and mistakes and avoid them in the future. Lectures by foreign authors were at a high level, but even top Czech and Slovak experts were not far behind. The Congress has long gone beyond the topic of sepsis, but it is not harmful at all. The evening sessions with good music and a glass of wine contributed to a good atmosphere and we are already looking forward to 2016. Finally, I want to express a big thank you to the organizer of the event, MUDr. To Roman Kula, who can organize such a huge congress and sensitively select all the speakers.

Symposium 17th COLORS of SEPSIS 2015

Symposium 17th COLORS of SEPSIS 2015 was held as in other years, indeed in different colors of lectures and emotions. The cooperation of nurses working in anesthesiology and intensive care in the professional field is necessary and rightfully deserves the epithet "international." I am glad that the Slovak Chamber of Nurses and Midwives was able to take over the patronage and professional guarantee of the 2nd postgraduate course for nurses in intensive care for the second time of care, which has become an integral part of COLORS of SEPSIS and moves nursing to a position "without borders". The high level of this professional event is evidenced by the increasing participation of rare guests from abroad and, last but not least, its organizational security. My big THANK YOU to the entire "family" of COLORS of SEPSIS, namely: MUDr. to Roman Kula, prof. MD Pavlov Šefčík, CSc., PhDr. Renátka Zoubková and PhDr. Dana Streitova, etc. It will be a great honor for me if we meet in Ostrava in a year, on the 18th. COLORS of SEPSIS 2016 and the 3rd postgraduate course of nurses in intensive care, because whoever enters this "colorful" family will fall in love with it.
