Sepsis and MODS course in Ostrava
represents a unique opportunity to pass on information and present current findings in intensive care medicine. It is an international event and it is certainly no coincidence that Ostrava has become an attractive destination for many well-known foreign personalities. The Ostrava sepsis course differs significantly from other courses and congresses in particular in its unmistakable atmosphere. Its main advantage is the meeting of specialists from different fields and the rare possibility of interdisciplinary discussions. And this both at the official level of professional presentations and pro-con discussions, as well as at the level of backroom discussions. Course participants are offered new points of view from other perspectives. This year's 15th year was a jubilee year and its quality also corresponded to that. It was held in an unconventional setting in the modern environment of the Technical University of Mining University in Ostrava-Porubá. The organizers of the event, especially Roman Kula, deserve the great admiration and respect of all participants, let's hope that their enthusiasm and energy will continue. The anniversary year encourages the question of how to proceed. The 1st intensivist festival Colors of Sepsis 2014 is already eagerly awaited.

Dear friends.
Also this year, like the fourteen before that, I had the honor and pleasure of accepting an invitation from Roman Kula again to the 15th Sepsis and MODS postgraduate course. Yes, it's incredible, but for fifteen years now, every year, Roman and a group of enthusiasts, with whom he surrounded himself thanks to his enthusiasm, ferocity and healthy stubbornness, have been able to attract hordes of Czech and Slovak anesthesiologists - intensivists - to Ostrava at the beginning of the year. And this despite the fact that there were years when the weather did its best to prevent the onslaught of enthusiasts from getting here. At the same time, there are more and more of them every year, to such an extent that Ostrava is starting to feel "small" to them, despite its size. Admit it yourself - from the group of about twenty enthusiasts who easily fit into the hospital seminar in the basement, there are hundreds of listeners and almost 130 speakers. The enormous interest and declared reputation of the course is also evidenced by the number of exhibiting companies that supported this event (and they certainly know what they are doing). If I counted them correctly, there were 32 of them. Ostrava, as we familiarly call it in professional circles, has become the most prestigious event in both our republics. It succeeded with the topicality of the topics, excellently chosen lecturers and foreign lecturers, a pleasant environment, an excellent, for me almost family-like, organization (thanks to the Salomons and everyone at the registration) and great social evenings full of fun, friendly sessions and wonderful live performers. Ostrava 2013 was exactly like that. I am convinced that all of you who were there have the same feeling as me. A feeling of real satisfaction and fulfillment of expectations. And I am absolutely convinced of one more thing. You already have the date 21 - 24 January 2014 marked in your calendars or electronic organizers. And hand on heart - you are already cutting an imaginary meter in your mind. I certainly do, and I'm looking forward to what Roman will come up with for me and all of us. I look forward to seeing you all again in our Ostrava in January 2014.
