History of Colors of Sepsis

General information

The event takes place every year in January. It has a postgraduate character and is intended for doctors and nurses who deal with intensive care. The organizer of the event is SANOPHRAM CZ in close cooperation with the Department of Anesthesiology, Resuscitation and Intensive Medicine and the Department of Pediatric Intensive and Resuscitation Care of the Department of Pediatrics at the University Hospital in Ostrava. The program of the event is being prepared in close cooperation with the leading experts of ČLS JEP, SLS and the Teaching Department of Intensive Medicine IPVZ in Ostrava. The chairman of the organizing committee is MUDr. Roman Kula, CSc. Since 2004, the event has been held under the auspices of the University Hospital in Ostrava, the Czech-Slovak Sepsis Forum, and since 2005 also under the auspices of the professional medical societies ČLS JEP and SLS and other important institutions.

Colors of Sepsis venue

The first five years of the event took place in the premises of the University Hospital in Ostrava. The sixth and seventh years were held on the premises of the University of Mining in Ostrava. The eighth to fourteenth year took place in the premises of the Clarion Hotel in Ostrava. The jubilee, 15th year of the event was held in the premises of the New Hall, VŠB-TU Ostrava. From 16. Colors will be held again in the premises of the Clarion Hotel in Ostrava.

History of Colors of Sepsis

The professional event, previously known as the PG Sepsis and MODS course, was organized for the first time in 1999. Seventeen students took part in it and a total of ten lectures were given. Over the next twenty-one years, a total of 13574 registered participants took part in the event. The lecturers at Colors are mostly well-known experts dealing with the issue of care for critically ill patients. Since 2000, lecturers and listeners from the Slovak Republic have also participated in the event, and since 2004, top representatives of the world's intensive medicine have also participated. In 2003, the Czech-Slovak Forum for Sepsis (hereafter CSFS) was founded on the grounds of the fifth year of the PG Sepsis course and the MODS course with an official declaration of joining the Barcelona Challenge – the document that launched The Surviving Sepsis Campaign. In 2005, the CSFS Challenge addressed to the Czech Medical Society JEP and the Slovak Medical Society to start cooperation with the aim of fulfilling the content of The Surviving Sepsis Campaign - to reduce the death rate from severe sepsis by 25% was also presented at the course.

In 2013, the Sepsis and MODS PG course was renamed Colors of Sepsis.

Since 2003, the symposium Current Affairs in Pediatric Intensive Care has been part of this event, since 2014 the Postgraduate Course for Nurses in Intensive Care, and since 2019 also the Day of Young Intensivists.

During the years 2002 to 2016, a collection of lectures was released from the event on DVD, which was annually enriched with audio recordings of most of the presentations. Since 2017, the Colors online lecture collection has been part of the website, and since 2018, all published collections and other important materials are available for download on this website.
